On September 4, a presentation of the "Circassian (Adyghe) Historical and Geographical Society" took place in the city of Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkarian Republic,- news agency Caucasus Times reports.
As the director and founder of the society Asker Khashirov explained in an interview, the main goal of the society is to popularize the Circassian culture, to bring objective scientific facts about the history, culture and historical geography of the Circassian ethnos to the public. Soon the society plans to start studying the historical archives in the National Archives of Georgia.
According to Khashirov, in its scientific and educational activities, the "Circassian (Adyghe) Historical and Geographical Society" plans to pay special attention to the preservation of the historical toponymy of the Circassians, since through it one can feel the connection of a person with his homeland.
He noted that the Circassian scientific community faces an acute problem of a shortage of personnel, which, in turn, significantly affects the quality and quantity of archaeological research. According to him, the "Circassian (Adyghe) Historical and Geographical Society" intends to change this situation for the better by involving young historians and archaeologists from different regions in Circassian research.
