The celebration of the Circassian New Year, which is celebrated on March 21, has not retained its significance associated with the beginning of field work, and is perceived by residents only as a cultural event, noted Circassian scientists and activists.

Festive events on the occasion of the Circassian New Year are included in the state program for the development of culture in the Republic of Adygea. They are held annually on March 21, the day of the vernal equinox.

In Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Circassia, this day is not celebrated.

The Circassian New Year comes from paganism, it is not a folk custom and is not popular among the wide strata of the Circassian society, since the majority of Circassians (Adyghe) do not want to compromise their Islamic identity,  Circassian activists said previously interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".
