EU countries agree to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Last Friday, the leaders of the 27 EU countries have agreed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by the end of the 2020s. The economic measures associated with this are expected to help restore the economies of the EU countries after the end of the coronavirus pandemic,- euronews reports.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission: “Today's agreement paves the way for achieving climate neutrality in 2050. It will give confidence to investors, businesses, authorities and citizens. It provides a future for our union. All EU countries should benefit from this transition. The European green deal creates conditions for economic growth, clean environment and health of citizens."

The negotiations were not easy due to the fears of countries, in the energy balance of which coal holds a large share.
