10 young filmmakers reach final of the Circassian Film Festival

Today, October 31, ten best works of young filmmakers from eight countries will be posted on the "Circassian Film Festival" YouTube Channel. Short films are dedicated to the Circassians' history and culture. An important precondition for participating in the contest is the use of the Adyg (Circassian) language.

The contest is held with the support of the world Circassian Repatriation Organization in Canada. The films will be available for watching throughout the week; the winners will be announced on November 6. The main prize is two thousand US dollars, the festival organizers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Svetlana Tesheva, a journalist and a jury member, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that main participants in the contest are young people under 30. In her opinion, the young people's interest in such a festival is important for the preservation of the Circassian language. "The organizers' precondition is the imperative that the Adyg language be heard there. This is also aimed at drawing attention to linguistics, to the preservation of our Circassian (Adyge) language, because it is being lost," said Ms Tesheva.

According to her story, the jury will choose one winner out of the 10 participating films; and another winner will be chosen by people's vote. Filmmakers from Syria, Jordan, America, Sweden, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Canada are taking part; two participants are from Adygea.
