Circassian wrestler Makhov was awarded the gold of the 2012 Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognized the Russian Circassian freestyle wrestler Bilyal Makhov as the champion of the 2012 Olympic Games, RIA Novosti reports.

On Tuesday, 07/14/2020, the IOC on its official website updated the protocols of the freestyle wrestling tournament in the weight category up to 120 kg. Initially, the gold in this weight was won by Artur Taymazov from Uzbekistan, who won the Georgian Davit Modzmanashvili in the final. Later, both wrestlers were disqualified and deprived of medals for violation of anti-doping rules, which became known after rechecking the samples of athletes participating in the Games.

As a result of the redistribution of medals, the IOC announced the Iranian Komeil Gasemi and Bilyal Makhov as champions of the 2012 Games.
