Large-scale of archaeological excavations are ongoing in Adygea

Large-scale archaeological work is underway on the road construction site bypassing Maykop. The Head of the Republic of Adygea Murat Kumpilov informed about this on his Instagram page.

On June 8 and 10, employees of the Office checked the progress of archaeological excavations in the construction zone of the highway "bypassing the city of Maykop (2nd stage)." Currently, two barrows have been investigated (Sovetsky - 30 and Sovetsky - 31), and work is underway in two settlements.

According to archaeologists, the Meotian settlement of the 6-5th century BC and mound were located here. In the cultural layer, many remains of ceramics, parts of bronze products and artifacts have already been discovered, indicating the existence of iron production here.

“This is a very painstaking and difficult job. As you can see, the excavation site is divided into sectors, experts manually, layer by layer, open for us the history of our distant ancestors. There is a study of the so-called cultural layer. Upon completion of work, the found artifacts will remain in the republic, will be stored in the funds of the National Museum of Adygea, ” Murat Kumpilov said.
