Facebook, which owns the social network of the same name, as well as the WhatsApp messenger and the Instagram photo and video sharing application, have filed two claims for systematic violation of antitrust laws. This was reported by the press service of the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The first lawsuit was filed by the regulator itself, the second - by the attorneys general of 46 states, the District of Columbia and Guam. This was preceded by a lengthy investigation.

The FTC believes that Facebook "illegally maintains a personal monopoly on social networks", for many years adhering to a "systematic strategy" that involves the acquisition of "promising competitors." “This course of action is detrimental to competition, leaves consumers with little choice in social media, and deprives advertisers of the competitive edge,” it said.
