The Maikop City Court (MCC) has upheld the decision of the Ministry of Justice of Adygea of putting the environmental and human rights organization “Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus” (EcoWatch) into the register of organizations performing the functions of a “foreign agent”.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "EcoWatch" was recognized as a “foreign agent” in September 2016, after which it filed a lawsuit against the Adyg MoJ’s decision.
According to Andrei Rudomakha, the coordinator of the "EcoWatch", the today's decision of the MCC, which left the eco activists’ claim without satisfaction, will be appealed against at the Supreme Court of Adygea, the "Interfax" reports.
Let us remind you that on December 8, 2016, inMoscow, members of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the Russian President held their annual meeting with Vladimir Putin and expressed doubts about the legality of putting the "EcoWatch" into the resister of “foreign agents”. In response, Vladimir Putin instructed Sergey Kirienko, the first deputy head of his administration, "to look again at the law on ‘foreign agents’." In February and March 2017, the MCC postponed the consideration, awaiting execution of this instruction.
